Aylet is a software tool that allows users to play music files with the `.ay' format easily.
This sound hardware emulation is based on the one developed for Spectrum emulator Fuse and the Z80 emulation is from Ian Collier's `xz80'. The software offers front-ends for both curses and X with mostly the same features. The curses version of Aylet has a `non-UI' option, allowing users to use it in much the same way as mpg123. Furthermore, Aylet provides users the ability to output music as a sample on stdout.
However, it is worth noting that the playlist management is currently rather poor, as the application just plays files specified on the command-line. Nevertheless, the developer plans on fixing this issue in a future update.
Recent updates to Aylet have improved the application as well. Tracks can now be faded out correctly when played.
