Bgrab is a software tool that enables the downloading of binary file attachments from newsgroups with ease.
One of the standout features of bgrab is that it is designed to be run without any keyboard interaction, and can even be scheduled to run from crond. To compile this program, users must have access to a system that utilizes the GNU C++ Compiler, or some other ANSI C++ compliant compiler linked to run as the 'gcc' executable. Additionally, users must have either curses or ncurses installed.
The makefiles included in bgrab are intended for use with Linux and Solaris systems, and the attached configure script is useful only for determining which of these two operating systems a user is running, and creating a link to the appropriate makefile. The Linux makefile assumes that users have ncurses installed, while the Solaris makefile assumes the availability of curses itself.
If a user is running a different variant of UNIX, or if their curses is called something other than what is assumed by bgrab, they will need to compile the software on their own. However, if their system satisfies these requirements, all that is necessary is to run 'configure', followed by 'make install'. The latter command will move the software binary (bgrab) to /usr/local/bin and set its permissions to root/root/755.
