BiCon is a Linux/*nix compatible software that facilitates the use of Arabic on consoles. Its full name is Bidirectional-Console, and it enables the display of written Arabic characters and text input in real-time.
The installation process for BiCon is simple; you may already have the necessary FriBidi library in your distribution. To install, follow the usual steps: ./configure, make, make install.
Usage of BiCon is straightforward. It can currently be used on Linux consoles or terminal emulators with basic Unicode rendering support such as gnome-terminal, xterm, or PuTTY. Users can simply run "bicon" to get a console that supports Arabic or Persian. The language selection is based on the LANG environment variable. However, users can also choose their language country by specifying the country on the command line, for example: bicon sa for Arabic (Saudi Arabia) support or bicon ir for Persian (Iran) support.
A helpful feature of BiCon is the bicon(1) man page, which users can use to learn more about the software and check its documentation. Overall, BiCon is an excellent software tool for anyone who needs to use Arabic script on their Linux or *nix consoles.
