Birne project is a straightforward interface to cdrecord and mkisofs.
Designed for those with little technical knowledge, Birne has a simplistic user interface and lacks advanced configuration options. Altering the default recording device requires adjustments to the source, which should be achievable for most users due to Birne being written in Python. Configuration files will be available in future updates, making it easier for ordinary users to prepare Birne for usage.
Setting up Birne is easy, as users can run it by unpacking the tarball and executing the "birne" executable in the created directory. Additionally, an installer script is available, making the setup process smoother for all users on their system.
To successfully use Birne, users must meet the following requirements: GTK+ version 2.4.x, python, python-gtk2, python-gtkmvc, cdrecord, mkisofs, cdrdao, python-pyao, python-pyvorbis, and python-pymad.
The most recent release of Birne can still be considered to be in alpha quality.
