BlackNova Traders is a web-based game where players use strategies to trade with one another. It's created using PHP and MySQL and can be played by multiple players at once.
In recent years, the game has grown so popular that the original hosting service had to ask the creator, Ron, to move elsewhere. At the same time, fans were begging for an open source release, as feature requests and bug fixes were slow with only Ron working on the code. The game has since been moved to a new host and was released as an open source project, originally under the artistic license and later under the GPL.
To play BlackNova Traders, you'll need access to a webserver, PHP, and MySQL. As for new features in this release, there have been a few bug fixes. One fix was for the connectdb() function, which would previously cause a blank screen on Setup Info. Now, if there's an error, the function can display either nothing or "Unable to connect to the database." There was also a fix for a bug in traderoutes, where players would enter a number of times to repeat in a text box and get a "non-existent traderoute" error. Finally, the $engage variable was made global in the function to prevent further issues.
