"Boolball" is a game that challenges players to drop balls amidst obstacles to earn points.
Players take turns dropping their balls into the field of obstacles. The lower the balls drop, the higher the score. You can earn two points per row, and 60 points are awarded for a ball that reaches the bottom of the field. The game can be played against the computer, with easy, medium, and difficult difficulty levels, or with a friend in a head-to-head battle.
The field contains various obstacles, including arrows, gray blocks, teleporters, and bonus blocks. Arrows move your ball one square to the direction the arrow is pointing. Gray blocks immediately block any ball that hits them, but they are removed at the end of the round for a bonus. Teleporters randomly transport your ball to another teleporter, adding an element of surprise to the game. Bonus blocks are worth 10 points and are only available for one player, so grab them quickly!
To win the game, you must develop a strategy and use a few tips. Keep balls that will reach the bottom no matter what for last because they are not very interesting for strategic purposes. Try to drop those balls which will have a negative effect on your opponent's score first and hold those that will score better after your opponent's balls for last. Finally, go for the bonus blocks, but balls that hit the bottom of the field are worth far more points.
The game ends when neither player can drop any more balls, either because they are out of balls or because all the balls are blocked by the opponent. The gray blocks are removed, and all balls that can fall do so, scoring more points for their owners. The scores are counted, and the player with the highest score is declared the winner.
Finally, Boolball requires at least version 2.2 of the GTK+, libGlade, GConf, libGnome, and libGnomeUI libraries to be installed. This latest release includes scalable graphics and a feature that remembers the window size. Additionally, model-view code reorganisation has been implemented but not yet completed. Overall, Boolball is a highly recommended game that is both challenging and fun to play.
