The C Comic Collection is a GTK-based software designed for the management of web comics, which allows users to download, categorize, and view their favorite comics with ease.
One of the best things about it is how easy it is to compile. All you need to do is type "make" and everything should work right out of the box. However, you will need development libraries for gtk, gtk_imlib, cURL, mysql, and pthreads. If you're using Linux, these should come with your distribution. However, if you're on another OS, it may be a bit trickier and you'll need to track them down yourself.
If you only have runtimes and you're using a 386 derivative (such as a Pentium), you can get a binary from a particular site. But for most people, compilation is the easiest way to get started. Once you've compiled everything, you'll have a binary called "gtk-cc". You can either copy this to your /usr/bin (requires root privileges), copy it to your ~/bin directory (no privileges required), or just run it from where it is with "./gtk-cc &".
One of the coolest things about C Comic Collection is how easy it is to populate the database with all of your favorite comics. Just run the included "comiccollection.sql" against an empty database (mysql -u < username > < dbname > < comiccollection.sql), and you're good to go! The package even comes with some comics to get you started.
Overall, the latest version of C Comic Collection includes a few minor improvements, but they're only really relevant if you view KeenSpace comics. It also fixes a file non-deletion problem and a KeenSpace file download problem. But even without those updates, C Comic Collection is an incredibly useful and powerful tool for anyone who loves Web comics.
