Cable Modem Counter logs IP bytes for cable modems and Ethernet connections.
The software consists of two main components. Firstly, a daemon records all incoming and outgoing connections and creates pairs of source/destination IP addresses with a byte counter and direction of traffic (inbound or outbound) attached. This data is then periodically stored in one or more files.
Moreover, the daemon can accept network connections for statistics gathering and also allows users to run their scripts that can send commands to the daemon and receive information.
Secondly, the application can be run on both console and X (wmaker/kde bar?). This user interface connects to the daemon and collects statistics, separating them based on national/international, inbound/outbound, etc. Note that this feature is not yet available.
In summary, Cable Modem Counter is an excellent tool for logging network data and monitoring the flow of traffic. Its user-friendly interface and powerful features make it a great choice for any user looking to keep track of their network usage.
