Canny Edge offers a Perl script that enables users to extract source code from a text file, apply patches, and generate a Makefile with just a few steps.
The primary issue that I faced was that Canny Edge was not implemented as a filter to convert image on stdin to edge map on stdout. Secondly, it was distributed as a text file with several concatenated files and lacked a proper Makefile.
Fortunately, Canny Edge comes with a perl script that can extract the source from the text file, perform necessary patching to make it work as a filter, and provide a convenient Makefile. This script saved me a great deal of time, and I am now able to utilize Canny Edge for my raster2vector project seamlessly.
Overall, I highly recommend Canny Edge to anyone looking for a quick and easy solution for Canny edge detection, especially if you face similar issues with the original redistribution. The software may have its limitations, but the perl script makes up for it quite well.
