Cbar is a Konqueror sidebar software project.
This software owes its existence to the contribution of many other people. In particular, the KDE team deserves credit for creating such a great and extensible system as KDE. Phil Thompson created Python bindings for Qt (pyQt) and KDE (pyKDE), Sebastian Sauer created Kross scripting engine for KDE, Florian Roth created Metabar, and OU contributed in various ways to the development.
The software's key features include pluggable scripts for selected items, selected folder, theme, and script loading. Additionally, it has a Konqueror sidebar module and a preloading plugin for fast loading. Also, the software has a basic set of scripts that demonstrate the capabilities of Cbar, such as image preview, other places, file details, and eject media. The software also has a generic Cbar library with scripting capabilities that can be embedded in other modules.
To install the software, one needs to have several requirements. These include the KDE headers, Python, pyQt, pyKDE, autoconf 2.5 and automake>1.6. These requirements can be installed using appropriate Ubuntu packages. Once the requirements are in place, users can proceed with the installation process, which involves compiling the program according to specific instructions.
Once the installation process is complete, users can access the software on Konqueror in "filemanagement" profile. To add the software, one needs to right-click on the sidebar icon bar and choose Configure Navigation Panel->Add New->Cbar. Users can switch to Cbar in the sidebar and configure the settings for optimal performance. For instance, memory usage can be minimized by selecting "For file browsing only (recommended)". Additionally, the preloading section can be set up for quick loading.
If users experience long loading time, they should confirm that they are using the "file management" profile and that preloading is set up properly as described in the installation instructions. The new release of the software has added a new widget for file management actions, a new script manager, Python initialization, and unnecessary -L/usr/lib from compilation has been removed.
