This software service menu converts filenames to and from utf-8 to repair issues with naming conventions.
Luckily, the Change Filename Code service menu is here to help! This tool is specifically designed to convert your filenames to and from utf-8, allowing you to easily fix any encoding errors you come across. All you need are two requirements: iconv and bash.
To install, simply extract the files and copy the encodeRename.sh bash script to somewhere in your PATH (be sure it's executable!). Then, copy the changeFilenameCode.desktop file to either ~/.kde/share/apps/konqueror/servicemenus/ (for a single user) or /usr/share/apps/konqueror/servicemenus/ (for all users as root). Once copied, edit the changeFilenameCode.desktop file to set up your code.
In this latest release, we've added a French translation and expanded the tool's functionality to work with directories (thanks, bobuse!). Try it out today and simplify your filename encoding issues for good!
