CloneKeen is a software program that serves as an engine for playing the popular video game Commander Keen: Invasion of the Vorticons, originally created by id software.
While CloneKeen is not quite 100% finished, it is certainly a very playable game. To play it, you will need either the shareware or registered data. One of the great advantages of CloneKeen is that it only requires libSDL to run, which is relatively easy to obtain.
This latest release of CloneKeen includes several welcome improvements. For example, Keen will no longer walk out of an exit while his pogo stick is still in use. A Linux port is now up and running, which is great news for Linux enthusiasts. The implementation of the "Press F10 for Fullscreen" feature is also a useful addition.
The GOD cheat has been tweaked to use the G+O+D command, and no longer requires the -cheat option. The desired fps has also been adjusted from 120 to 112. Additionally, the -showfps function now displays the correct information, and there is now the ability to zoom the screen using the scale2x feature.
Finally, a number of bugs have been fixed. For example, there was previously a crash that occurred when changing episodes or adjusting settings under the options menu. There was also an issue with the walking sound continuing to play if the FIRE button was held down while LEFT or RIGHT was pushed. All of these issues have been resolved in this latest version of CloneKeen.
