ClusterControl simplifies distributing and monitoring bioinformatics apps on Linux clusters via a user-friendly web interface.
ClusterControl empowers users to integrate different applications into one interface, enabling the execution of tasks on a distributed cluster system with ease. The software leverages widely available technologies such as PHP as a server-side scripting language, Apache as the web-server, and OpenPBS or Sun Grid Engine (SGE) as the queuing system. As a result, installation on common operating systems is seamless.
To install ClusterControl locally, a running installation of the Apache web server with PHP (Version 4) and LDAP support, which typically comes with nearly every Linux distribution, is required. Additionally, a local installation of the queuing system Open Portable Batch System (PBS) downloadable from the website or Sun Grid Engine (SGE) available at the other site is necessary. If an LDAP-Server is already available for user-management of the cluster a simple modification of the configuration file will integrate it with ease.
To initiate the monitoring mechanism of ClusterControl, a status-collecting server-process must be launched on every cluster node. With the adaptation of one well-documented configuration file, the installation process is completed.
