Concertina Sound Font is a top-notch SF2 format Sound Font with exceptional audio quality.
Created from a baritone Wheatstone English concertina from 1906, this Sound Font is an excellent addition to your Quicktime library. However, be warned that the file size is quite large, weighing in at 7.3 Mb due to the inefficient compression method used by Stuffit. The dedicated packaging programs, SFArk and SFPack, do not have Macintosh versions available yet.
To use this Sound Font, you must have at least version 5 of Quicktime installed. If you are using OS X, unpack the file and place the resulting "Concertina.sf2" file in ~/Library/Audio/Sounds/Banks. If you are running a Classic system, place the file in System Folder:Extensions:Quicktime Extensions.
If you need to use the Sound Font under both operating systems, you can put the file in the OS X location, reboot in OS 9, make an alias of the file, and place it in the Quicktime Extensions folder.
Adding the Sound Font to your instrument library is easy. After choosing "Add an Instrument" from the Instrument sub-menu, select the "Wheatstone English Concertina" synth from the Synthesiser popup menu in the Instrument Picker dialog. Next, choose one of the three available instruments in the Instrument popup.
Overall, the Wheatstone English Concertina Sound Font is an excellent addition to Quicktime's somewhat limited selection of sounds. With a few simple steps, you can easily expand your musical options and add some unique and high-quality instruments to your collection.
