An engaging artificial life simulation game.
Each animal is controlled by a small computer application, which serves as the animal's brain. At random times, the program undergoes mutation, and most of the changes that occur are awful - leading to the program malfunctioning, causing the animal's death. However, occasionally, the mutations are useful, and the animal passes the modified program to its offspring. With time, successful changes spread through the population, and the animals evolve.
The default program is slow and dumb, but as evolution progresses, the creatures adapt to their surroundings. In some cases, a fast-eating machine evolves, eats all the food, and takes over. The result of such a population explosion consumes food faster than it can grow back, leading to starvation. Sometimes, a slower, less energy-intensive animal may gain the advantage and flourish.
In conclusion, Creatures is an excellent artificial life program that offers users the ability to explore the complexities of life, death, and evolution in a complete and immersive virtual environment. The program is easy to use, and the various experiments conducted are both intriguing and educative.
