Cygwin Easy is an auto-run disk that enables effortless utilization of the Cygwin environment on a Windows computer, simplifying and expediting work processes.
Your Cygwin work directory, also known as your home, is located in the "cygwin" directory, which is conveniently placed on your desktop. If a Cygwin installation already exists in your computer, Cygwin Easy will revert back to the former environment after "autorun.bat" is properly terminated or when you click on the link to remove Cygwin Easy.
On your desktop, there are links available for initiating new shells or initiating the X Windows server. Should you wish to start the X Windows server when the disk is inserted, you can simply run "D:autorun X" from Start -> Run, whereby "D" denotes the letter of your optical drive.
Upon completion of your work in the Cygwin Easy environment, only your workdir will be left on your guest system. If you want to modify your home path, you can create a configuration file titled "cygwineasy.ini" on your desktop and include the following code: [Cygwin Easy] HOME=C:homeuser, where "C:homeuser" represents the path of your home. Another option is to specify this as the second argument for "autorun.bat" by running "D:autorun shell C:homeuser" from Start -> Run.
If you require a more dynamic console display, with features like the tab, you can easily run "console.exe" from the "console" directory. Console is an open-source application that is compatible with Windows 2000, XP, Vista and upcoming versions. A comprehensive list of Cygwin Easy packages is housed in the "packages.txt" file, which contain licenses of various forms, mostly under GPL. The Cygwin Easy scripts fall under GPL as well.
