Davenport allows WebDAV-based entry to a Windows/Samba network through its servlet system.
Davenport uses Windows domain username and password to permit user access to shared resources, so no account configuration is typically needed. Installing Davenport is trouble-free, and the binary distribution is preinstalled in a standalone Jetty Servlet container. Additionally, the preinstalled containers are available as a zip, gzipped tar archive, and Linux RPM install.
Once you've installed the package, configure the deployment descriptor for your specific environment to your liking. After that, you're ready to start the Davenport container from the root directory. When the container is ready, you can browse through your shared resources using your web browser. Just type in the server address on which Davenport is running, and it will list all shares on the "smbserver" server.
Notably, with Davenport, you can drag and drop files and folders to and from the Web Folder, create and delete directories like you would on a regular file explorer. Furthermore, you can perform other file operations effortlessly.
Another fantastic feature of Davenport is the support for HTTPS, making it a reliable way to access internal shared drives over the web without requiring a VPN. The new release of Davenport comes with an updated and improved version of bundled jCIFS and Jetty. Moreover, it boasts GZIP and Deflate compression, giving you more flexibility in file management.
