Diagnil is a software that helps solve diagramless crossword puzzles.
Diagramless crossword puzzles, unlike their standard crossword counterparts, only provide word clues and do not disclose word locations. Solving these puzzles is therefore a lot more complicated as it requires both determining the words and making sure they are correctly placed on the grid. Even though the standard crossword puzzle has gained popularity, the diagramless variety has not been as widely accepted.
The complexity of the puzzle is one reason why most people shy away from it. However, diagramless puzzles are easier to solve than people presume and not suitable for beginners. A major reason why most people find it tedious to solve diagramless puzzles is the manual process of redrawing the grid multiple times to reach the correct word layout. Although solving these puzzles can be intellectually stimulating, the constant revision can suck the enjoyment out of the process. While expert solvers may not be discouraged by the process, beginners tend to wear out their erasers.
To enjoy the benefits of the Diagnil software, you must have Python 2.2 or later installed. Fortunately, the Windows installer comes with this requirement included, and it is also a standard feature on Linux and OS X 10.4.
