Digest is a software tool that creates HTML index pages and image previews for efficient organization and browsing of image files.
In order to use Digest, you will need to have Python and python-imaging installed on your system. This software supports all file types currently supported by python-imaging, including JPG, JPEG, JPE, GIF, PNG, TIF, TIFF, and BMP.
One of the standout features of Digest is its ability to generate thumbnails for all of the supported file types, as well as for any files or directories created by other programs or by hand. This means that you can quickly and easily find the images you need, even if you have a large collection to sift through.
To make things even easier, Digest will automatically look for thumbnails in a specific location. For example, if you have created a thumbnail for a file named ./foo-bar.mpeg, digest will look for a thumbnail in ./.cache/foo-bar.jpg. Similarly, a thumbnail for a directory ./dirname/ would be located in ./.cache/dirname.jpg. And if a directory contains images and has no hand-created thumbnail in its parent directory, digest will use the first image in the directory to generate a thumbnail for the directory.
To use Digest, simply invoke it from the command line with a list of directories to index. If you don't specify any directories, Digest will automatically index the current directory. And with command line options that apply to all directories, using Digest is as easy as can be.
