The DIX project is a trial game engine with an experimental approach.
To install DIX, you will need to have GNU make and GNU CC. Once you've downloaded the DIX tarball, simply unpack it in the desired directory and run "make" or "gmake" from the command line. You can then start the game by typing "./dix."
DIX's latest release includes several new features and fixes. These updates address software bugs such as the pathfinder and terminal sizing crashes. The game title support, background color support, and overhauls of screen updater, backlog renderer, and dialogue builder, all enrich the game's performance.
Players using DIX will also benefit from newly added termination counters to DISEASE, and dialogue builder transition effect options, and a tutorial with realistic examples of gameplay. Window display has been improved with colors and a nice selector, and the auto linefeed bug on Windows has been fixed. The login screen and splash screen have been updated, with a new login screen presentation added.
Overall, DIX is an excellent software application delivering both user-friendly features and advanced functionality. Its unique combination of text-based and graphical user interface features make it a game engine that's definitely worth a try.
