DNALinux is a pre-installed Linux distribution that comes loaded with bioinformatics software.
The distro works from a CD, meaning there's no need to install the operation system, and since it's a live-CD, no permanent changes can be made to your system (unless you make a hard disk install). However, applying security patches to this kind of distro isn't easy, so we advise against deploying it on a "raw" (unprotected) internet connection. Instead, you can happily use it inside a trusted network.
If you're looking for a Linux distro for firewall functions, then we recommend using SmoothWall. As for what's new in this release, the server edition comes with a live NCBI BLAST server. You'll also receive the H5N1 genomic sequence when you purchase DNALinux. Fortunately, you can easily install your database too.
Lastly, we're pleased to report that this version is based on Slax 5.10 and Apache 2., which adds to its versatility and performance. Overall, DNALinux is among the top bioinformatics software packages available today!
