Docvert is a web-based service software that supports the conversion of multiple word processor files.
Docvert's resulting XML can be styled with XML/XSLT Pipelines. This feature supports the breaking up of content into headings or sections, multiple serializations, and even pipeline branching. The integration with Docvert is effortless because it has a simple REST-style interface. Moreover, it's released under the LGPL license, which means there are no legal issues associated with developing proprietary software on top of it.
Currently, the software is looking for XSLT programmers to contribute their themes. If you're interested in contributing, send in your themes, and they'll be included in the next release. Docvert requires OpenOffice 1.9.122 or later, PHP 5.0 or later, and Zlib and XSLT. If you're running a *nix, you'll also need Xvfb (often included in most distros) for OOo.
In its latest release, Docvert has improved its speeds, and its new "PyODConverter with OOo Server" option makes it three times faster than before. Additionally, converted Office documents can now be published to blogs, and images can be optimized for size without losing their quality. The interface has been translated into English and French, there are several usability enhancements, and the software comes with a set of bugfixes. If you have any patches or suggestions, please send them over!
