Gottox's branch of dynamic window manager is a software that allows for efficient management and customization of windows on a user's computer screen. This branch emphasizes ease of use and convenience in organizing and accessing applications.
The developer clarifies that dwm-gtx is different from dwm because it is the creator's version. He aims to maintain the idea of having everything necessary and removing anything that is not needed, making the software less feature-rich as other software like awesome. The software only includes features that are already included in the vanilla dwm or features that he needs. Although some users request adding various features, he disagrees because merging changes from vanilla-dwm to dwm-gtx increases workload, and other forks already support it.
To install dwm on your device, edit the config.mk to match your local setup. The default installation of dwm is in the /usr/local namespace. After that, you can use the command "make clean install" to build and install dwm. If you want to use the default blue-gray color scheme, the developer advises also installing the blue-gray files shipped in the dextra package.
To start using dwm, add the line "exec dwm" to your .xinitrc to start dwm using startx. If you want to connect dwm to a specific display, make sure that the DISPLAY environment variable is set correctly. In order to show status info in the bar, you can add the following code to your .xinitrc:
while true
do
echo `date` `uptime | sed 's/.*,//'`
sleep 1
done | dwm
Customizing dwm's configuration is easily accomplished by creating a custom config.h file and recompiling the source code.
