E3 editor is a small and concise software solution for text editing, providing users with an efficient tool for creating and modifying text documents with ease.
e3 also supports sub-processes which can be used with the stream editor 'sed', providing a user with the full power of regular expressions. It can use Wordstar-, EMACS-, Pico, Nedit or vi-like key bindings, depending on the user's preference. Additionally, e3's assembler version is available on 11 important x86 OS, and a 32-bit native code assembler version for StrongARM CPUs.
Moreover, e3 is independent of any other library, except on QNX and Win32. Its usage is easy, and all versions of e3 accept a filename as an argument. It features a status and input line, where filenames, find-texts, line numbers, etc. can be entered.
For details on key bindings, users can read each e3xx initial page, or type Alt-H during editing. If using vi, the user needs to use ESC:h instead. Alt-key combinations may not work on some computers such as BeOS or QNX, in which case the user should press CTRL followed by the key, e.g. press ESC and H instead of Alt-H.
e3 also shows a dot for characters below ASCII 20h and greater 7Fh, but only on non-win9x and non-UTF-8 versions. Finally, at the end of an edit cycle, e3 asks the user whether or not they want to save (Ynl). Press "n" to NOT save, "l" for SAVE and LOAD new, and any other key for SAVE and EXIT.
In conclusion, the recent final release adjusts e3 to current versions of NASM and YASM assemblers, making it a reliable and efficient text editor. It has been tested on the terminal console, and should also work on Xterm, Eterm, rxvt, kvt, vt220 and vt100.
