eAccelerator is an enhanced version of the mmcache PHP Accelerator & Encoder. It helps in speeding up PHP scripts by caching them and also includes additional optimizations.
What impressed me the most about eAccelerator is its versatility. I tested it on various versions of Redhat Linux (7.0, 7.3, 8.0, 9.0, Fedora Core 1,2,3) and Windows with Apache 1.3 and 2.0, and it performed admirably on all of them.
One thing to note is that this version of eAccelerator has been successfully tested on PHP 4.1.0-4.3.3. However, I would be interested to see how it performs on newer versions of PHP.
Finally, this release of eAccelerator includes an optimizer fix for #242. Specifically, PHP-5.2.1 introduces a ZEND_JMP before a ZEND_FETCH_CLASS/ZEND_CATCH which the optimizer did not handle correctly, resulting in uncaught exceptions. (Thanks to warwickshaw). This is a nice touch and shows that the developers of eAccelerator are committed to fixing any bugs that may arise.
