Easy Menu is a software tool that enables users to build automagic extensions across multiple browsers. It simplifies the process of extension building to facilitate the creation of custom browser menus.
What is included in the Menu? Links to a variety of recognized URL’s such as http, ftp, irc, among others. Additionally, you can create multiple sub-menus and icons to accompany them. Mailing Lists are supported by the program, and you can include a sub-menu designated thus, which will automatically include a link to the Mailing List archive of that specific month ordered by date, thread, subject, and author. Search forms also have a place in the menu, and you can add a customized option that pops up and prompts the user to insert a value that will be used as a parameter for the specified search form of type GET. Additionally, you can even add hidden aspects that will only be shown under specific conditions, such as a personalized link to your community forum or personal webpage, amongst others.
Customization is a simple process with Easy Menu. You can specify the main style properties of each item or sub-menu in the Menu. Bolded text, custom color schemes for the various items, sub-menus, and backgrounds, and border colors for sub-menus are all available options.
Using the program is rather straightforward. Uncompress the downloaded file and move it to the directory uncompressed. Following this, you can run the program in a terminal using Python’s help to see all the available options. SOURCE can be a path to a local XML file, the URL of a remote XML file, the special value “-” for standard input, or a string. The various option flags (such as -c for compatibility) have specific uses, such as defining the max version that will be used for the target application compatibility or determining whether to overwrite output files without prompting.
Overall, Easy Menu is an excellent program for constructing custom Firefox extensions and menus, sure to please even the most creative of designers.
