EDelta is an optimized binary differ program designed specifically for executables that undergo systematic version changes. It functions similarly to XDelta and is exceptionally fast.
Personally, I use EDelta to quickly deploy Linux kernels from my development laptop to my test machines. It has been a game-changer, especially when I have to work over my slow ADSL line at home. Shipping the entire file can be a painstakingly slow process, but with EDelta, I frequently experience a factor of 100 speedup.
Recently, EDelta released the 0.9e stable version, which has improved features such as a -q switch, better argument parsing, and an enhanced version of the epatch script. This version allows for remote patching using SSH, which is a significant addition to this already great software.
With the introduction of the 0.10a development release, EDelta has also added the -le switch that provides improved compression on Intel and other little-endian platforms. The few bugs in the previous version have also been resolved, making this software more efficient and reliable.
Overall, EDelta has proven to be a reliable and fast binary differ software, and with its improved features, it's worth considering by anyone seeking a faster way of deploying executables.
