Einstein Platform enables Mac users to run Newton OS 2.1 on their devices.
The latest release, Relativity for Einstein, comes with a variety of new features and improvements. Firstly, the transfer speed between Einstein and Host has been notably accelerated. Additionally, the Einstein Platform now runs in full screen on MacOS X, and keyboard mappings have been expanded. Furthermore, the release includes a new set of icons by Michael Vacík, allowing the toolbar icons to reflect the state of Einstein more accurately.
Other notable updates include an improvement to the Cocoa preferences panel, as well as AppleScript support for evaluating newton script code and installing packages. Several bugs have been identified and fixed, including an issue with the endianess problem with the Cocoa screen manager, which led to crashes, especially with the JIT page cache. Other bug-fixes, such as one which caused an abort when the platform was quitted, were also addressed. The CoreAudio sound on Intel machines was corrected, with the PortAudio sound driver now able to revert samples for little endian targets. Additionally, the tablet region which had previously been restricted to only 1023x1023, was increased to NewtonOS size (2047x2047).
