eKitaab is a software for managing extensive eBook catalogs, but it doesn't function as an eBook reader.
One of the best things about eKitaab is that it downloads all the book information from the Internet, either by searching for the author, title, or using the ISBN. This ensures that the eBook files themselves are never changed and that only basic information is stored locally. This also means that if you send an eBook to someone else with eKitaab, they can import the file with any retagging.
The software does not have any proprietary format, nor database, making it easy to export data to other eBook manager software later on. The software can display all essential details about your eBook collection, including the title, author, ISBN, book description, and book cover. You can also keep track of what you've read, making it easier to manage your reading lists.
All information is automatically populated from searches from Amazon, but you can also manually enter the title, author, and ISBN if you already know them. eKitaab's latest version, 0.5.5 Stable Release has added text search feature for all fields, and automatically checks for new versions. It also upgraded to minimum requirement of Java 1.6 to support the search feature and opening file in the default application.
The recent 0.6 RC2 Development Release of eKitaab has fixed some bugs and made several optimizations. The tagging code has now been optimized so authors' names don't refresh each time a tag or reading list is added to a book. Image downloading from Amazon has been improved for faster loading, and the software now uses the ClearLooks theme by default. Some minor bug fixes and clean-up work have also been done.
