GNOME now offers a new dark theme option to users. This theme provides a darker interface that is easier on the eyes and provides a sleeker look for the desktop environment.
Installation of Elite is easy and hassle-free. Users can right-click on their desktop, select Change Desktop Background, and then click on the first tab, Theme. They can thereafter drag and drop the theme's archive in the Appearance Preferences window. Once the installation is successful, a confirmation message will be displayed, and users can activate the Elite theme by just clicking on it.
GNOME is an international effort to build a complete desktop environment exclusively from free software. This includes software development frameworks, selection of application software for the desktop, and working on programs that manage application launching, file handling, window, and task management. GNOME is part of the GNU Project and can be run on various Unix-like operating systems, particularly Linux, and as part of Java Desktop System in Solaris.
Although the name of the project originally stood for GNU Network Object Model Environment, the acronym is no longer in use. Simplicity, usability, and making things "just work" are the key principles that form the foundation of the GNOME project.
