Entertainer is a user-friendly media center software designed specifically for Gnome and XFce desktop environments, providing simple and uncomplicated features for flawless digital entertainment.
One of the features of Entertainer is the ability to watch movies and TV-series from your hard drive. With a one-time search, Entertainer automatically downloads metadata such as cover art from the internet. Entertainer also allows users to navigate their music library by artist, album, genre, or even make their playlists. It gives convenience to music lovers as it automatically downloads album art and lyrics for each track as well.
This software enables users to display their family photographs for viewing on the big screen. It has a photo library that allows you to find your favorite shots easily. Entertainer also includes a simple RSS-reader called Headlines, making it a more familiar term for people who are not familiar with IT terms. Lastly, Entertainer supports theming, allowing users to make the media center look just the way they like it. Additionally, creating themes is relatively easy.
To install Entertainer, one would need to install the following dependencies; python-notify, python-feedparser, python-pyvorbis, python-pyogg, python-eyed3, python-pysqlite2, python-gtk2, python-glade2, python-clutter, python-pyinotify, python-imdbpy, python-imaging, python-cairo-dev, gtk-doc-tools.
The installation of Clutter 0.5.0 involves adding the following to your sources.list: deb gutsy/. After that, the user will run the command "sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install libclutter-0.5-0".
The product has been tested extensively under Ubuntu 7.10 (Gutsy Gibbon). To install Entertainer, one would need to download the latest source code from the Google Code SVN repository with the command "svn checkout entertainer". Under the entertainer folder, users can access the cfg folder, which is the configuration folder of the Entertainer. By copying cfg under the home and renaming it to .entertainer, users can easily access and use the product.
To set your media folders, the user would navigate to the src folder and execute the entertainer-content-management.py script. It is easy to add new media files utilizing this GUI-tool. Movie files should be named by the movie name, while TV-episodes should be named by their season and episode numbering.
The backend is executed simply by running "./entertainer-backend.py" script from src folder while running the "./entertainer-frontend.py" script would execute the frontend. Successfully, you should see the Entertainer GUI and be able to use it. Although it still has some bugs, this should not be surprising as the software is still in development.
