ERP5 is a software solution for essential business processes such as ERP, CRM, MRP, SCM, and PDM. It is useful for critical business functions, ensuring security and data privacy.
An excellent feature of ERP5 is its preferred installation method, which is accomplished through a LiveCD that can store persistent data on a hard disk. This makes implementing ERP5 at a distant location with little or no Linux skills an easy task.
ERP5 also saves valuable engineer time, as it reduces the installation time to 1 minute. This provides more time for application set up and customization.
Installing the newest version of ERP5 and business templates is simple. Start by getting the latest LiveCD ISO and burn the image. Then, read the README file on the CD for basic Linux/Windows setup instructions.
Next, boot from the CD and locate your erp5cd directory under /mnt/storage. Login as root using password "erp5root". After that, go to the /var/lib/zope/Products directory and checkout the latest version of ERP5 with the svn_update.sh script.
If using a LiveCD prior to version 1.0rc8, you will need to replace /var/lib/zope/Extensions/InventoryBrain.py with a symlink to /var/lib/zope/Products/ERP5/Extensions/InventoryBrain.py.
Restart zope and create a new ERP5 site, naming it whatever you wish. You will be asked if you want to use CMFActivity - select "I'm new to ERP5 so I'll use it later" (otherwise, you'll need to set up a custom zope_tic_loop script). This will soon be obsolete thanks to TimerService integration. If using a livecd version ≥ 1.0rc8, safely select "I know it and I want to use it".
Finally, go to the My Favorites menu, select Manage Business Templates, or go to localhost/your_new_erp5_site/portal_templates, and choose any desired business template to install by following the HowToInstallBusinessTemplates guide.
