Esound is a sound mixing server that enables simultaneous sound output from multiple applications to a single audio device.
Esound lacks features required for a modern desktop environment such as multi-channel audio and audio/video synchronization. Even though the software is part of the GNOME platform for a little while longer, it is clear that Esound is seriously outdated.
Despite its shortcomings, Esound is still being maintained, albeit, with considerations made. Users are humbly asked to spare a thought for the developers and please refrain from laughing. Additionally, if there are any bugs encountered, reports should be submitted here, with expectations of resolution rather low, unless they are a regression from recent versions or accompanied by patches.
