Fontimage creates PNG images of text strings using outline font files in a portable and compact manner.
The tool is also designed to handle characters beyond the ascii range with ease, and it comes licensed under GNU GPL. Currently, it has been tested on CentOS 4.3 and Fedora Core 5 with great results.
The tool's only requirement to function is having both libpng and freetype installed on the system.
In the latest release, fontimage has fixed two issues. The first was an embarrassing mistake that caused random failures in the tool. The second issue caused the size of images generated to be miscalculated, occasionally leading to clipping.
Overall, Fontimage is a reliable tool that comes in handy for anyone who requires a simple yet effective tool to generate PNG images from text strings on their system.
