Freecycle is a software tool designed for GNU/Linux that functions as a beat slicer.
One of the standout features of Freecycle is its LADSPA interface, which offers complete control parameter automation and easy-to-use routing schemas. Furthermore, the software offers both traditional amplitude (scope) view as well as a fully integrated spectrogram view for LADSPA filter visualization.
In terms of connectivity, Freecycle provides basic OSS output and preliminary JACK layer connectivity. However, it requires the following libraries to be installed: Qt, libsndfile, FFTW3, JACK, LADSPA, SoundTouch, Aubio, and tar.
The latest release of Freecycle has resolved some bugs that previously prevented it from functioning properly on 64bit platforms. Additionally, the source code has been updated to make it Gcc 3.4 friendly and solve some other minor bugs. Lastly, the naming schema for files on slice export has been changed in this release. Overall, Freecycle is a powerful and versatile software for music producers and DJs looking to experiment with beat slicing and looping.
