FUSEPod mounts your iPod as a directory in virtual userspace filesystem for easy browsing of its songs.
One of the key advantages of FUSEPod is its ease of use. To mount your iPod, all you need to do is type “fusepod [mount_to]” into the console. If your iPod is not found, you can use the environment variable IPOD_DIR to specify where your device is located. For instance, if your iPod is mounted at /media/IPOD and you want to mount the fusepod layer at /home/keegan/ipod, you would enter “IPOD_DIR="/media/IPOD" fusepod /home/keegan/ipod” at the console.
Configuration for FUSEPod is simple as well, as a file containing the directory layout is located in the user's home directory under the name .fusepod. The file can be changed to suit the user's preferred layout by substituting files in the layout with the following table: %a = Artist, %A = Album, %t = Title, %g = Genre, %T = Track, %y = Year, and %r = Rating. For example, if a user wanted the layout /Testing/1/2/3/{Artist}/{Title}.mp3, they would write “/Testing/1/2/3/%a/%t.mp3” in the .fusepod file, ensuring that the line starts with a / character.
The latest version of FUSEPod has fixed a bug that prevented it from being mounted over Samba, and users can now use “fusepod -o allow_other mount_point” to allow Samba to read the mount point. Overall, FUSEPod is a remarkable software with convenient features that make browsing your music library on an iPod easy and seamless.
