FusionSound is a versatile audio sub system, designed to support multiple applications.
One of the key benefits of FusionSound is its support for multiple applications through Fusion IPC. This enables you to get more done in less time, providing you with streams, static sound buffers, and control over a multitude of concurrent playback options.
One of the standout features of FusionSound is the way it always stores sample data in shared memory. This means starting a playback is as simple as adding an entry to the playlist of the mixer thread in your master application.
Another great thing about FusionSound is that it's currently a module of DirectFB. With the full API implemented, the entire code is actually smaller than just the header file of DirectFB! So, you get all this power and capability, without any of the bloat.
Looking ahead, FusionSound has some pretty exciting plans in the pipeline. These include interfaces for hardware/software codecs, hardware gain control, device configuration, and different device backends (it's currently OSS only).
If you're on the fence about whether or not to give FusionSound a try, the latest release has even more to offer. It features a fix for CDDB discid computation and improved searching for CDDB disc data – iterating through all categories. All in all, FusionSound is a highly recommended audio sub system that's definitely worth exploring.
