Gaim-status plugin auto-updates your Gaim instant messenger status to your current song.
One of the most notable features of "Gaim-status" is its ability to change the status of Gaim to the currently played song in Amarok. The status of Gaim changes to show the song artist and title, making it easy for others to know what you're currently listening to.
Additionally, "Gaim-status" can change the status of Gaim to the currently played song or video in Kaffeine. The status of Gaim changes accordingly, providing users with the title of the video or the artist and song title in the case of music files.
If Amarok and Kaffeine are not playing or are closed, "Gaim-status" can display random messages from fortune. This feature allows users to keep others informed of their online status even when they are not listening to music or watching videos.
This plugin has been tested on several systems, including Kubuntu 7.04 Feisty Fawn, Gaim 2.0.0beta6, Amarok 1.4.7 (optional), Kaffeine 0.8.5 (optional), fortune-mod version 9708 (optional), and KDE 3.5.7 on an Intel Pentium (32-bit) system.
To use "Gaim-status," users must first download the script and set the permission of the script to allow execution. They should also enter their account's password when prompted. Users must make the Gaim entry in the menu to trigger "Gaim-status" startgaim instead of just opening Gaim. If the script is not stored in /usr/bin, users will need to provide the path to "Gaim-status" as an argument. If they do not want random quotes to be set as their status while Amarok is not playing, they can pass another argument nofortune to the command.
Overall, "Gaim-status" is a useful and easy-to-use plugin that makes it simple for Gaim instant messenger users to keep others updated on their activities.
