GAlbum is a photo album software designed for Gtk+ and GNOME, offering a range of functions in a compact package.
To run GAlbum, users need to have GTK+ version 2.8.x and SQLite installed on their devices. These requirements shall be installed by default on a typical GNU/Linux distribution. GAlbum is distributed for free, following standard conventions for free software. To build the application from its source, users need to cd to the top of the source tree, and do ./configure --prefix=make make install.
GAlbum has only been tested on a Fedora Core 5 X86 system. Nevertheless, the application should work on other X86 Unix-like systems with gcc and the standard GNU tools. Importing a directory containing photos into the program is easy. Just click on the "import" button and remember to select a directory containing photos, rather than individual photo files. Once you have created a collection, you can double-click on a thumbnail to open another window to view the picture.
GAlbum viewer window supports Zooming in and out of the picture from 5% to 400% the original size. GAlbum also tracks the EXIF meta-data associated with each photo. Currently, this information is not displayed. However, future support for EXIF tag browsing and querying will be added. Moreover, GAlbum will add support for custom tagging of photos soon.
All in all, GAlbum is a feature-rich, user-friendly photo album application worth trying.
