GBibUtils provides a user-friendly interface for Bibutils' conversion tools, which transform bibliographic data. It is a GUI software useful for managing references in research, academic writing, and scientific studies.
To use GBibUtils, you'll need to have a few software requirements installed on your system, including GTK+ version 2.10.x or higher, Python, PyGTK, Glade, and BibUtils. Once you have these dependencies installed, you can start GBibUtils by typing "python gbibutils.py" in the terminal.
In the latest release of GBibUtils, there are several new features and improvements. Users can now set the input file via a command-line argument and execute the script as "python gbibutils.py /path/to/source/file" to provide an interface to the Webbrowser's "Open with" dialog. GBibUtils also offers additional output post-processing options, such as saving, appending to a file, and copying to the clipboard.
Another useful feature is the ability to remember current settings (formats, options, and filename) in gbibutils.config file, which should be placed in the same directory as the script itself. Additionally, minor improvements have been made, including a progress bar, an about dialog, and a help dialog (although no help is available at this moment).
However, there is one remaining bug that users may encounter when using the about and help dialog. Because the widget is being destroyed by closing the window, the dialogs only show up once. Therefore, some exception handling is needed, especially when input files are in binary format and not text.
Overall, GBibUtils offers a convenient and user-friendly interface for working with BibUtils conversion tools.
