gbPPTPclient offers a graphical interface for the PPTP VPN client, simplifying the connection process for users.
The main objective of gbPPTPclient is to provide an easy-to-install and easy-to-use interface for the existing pptp client. gbPPTPclient has been tested with PPTP VPN servers on Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP and has been successful so far. However, tests with Poptop and WMpptpd, the PPTP VPN servers for Linux, have yet to be performed.
The software has been built using Gambas, as the developer has no experience in C or C++. Furthermore, the developer has had a lot of experience with Visual Basic in the past. Gambas was therefore the best choice for the developer to get up to speed fairly quickly without having to dive into an unfamiliar programming language. With Gambas 2.0.0 being released now, the developer believes Gambas deserves a fair chance.
Requirements for gbPPTPclient are pptp or pptp-linux, gambas2-runtime, gambas2-gb-qt (KDE), and gambas2-gb-gtk (Gnome). In this release, the software fixes the application's problem of working only in Mandriva or derived systems because of pppd acting differently. It also adds support for Ubuntu and OpenSuSE and packages for those systems along the way. Overall, gbPPTPclient is easy to install and use, making it a useful tool for Linux users who need to connect their PC to a VPN server at work.
