gcombust is a user interface tool for mkisofs and cdrecord written in GTK+. It provides a graphical front-end for creating and burning iso files.
Although gcombust seems quite stable, keep in mind that it is still under development, and the developer suspects it will always be. Currently, the most significant problem with gcombust is the absence of documentation. Therefore, if you decide to use it, here are some key features:
- Burning data on the fly from a hard drive without making an image
- CD-to-CD data copy on the fly
- Tooltips to avoid reading man pages
- Easy creation of ISO-images
- Maximizing disk by hinting which directories/files to use
- Audio-CD creation
- WAV to audio-CD
- Audio-CD to WAV
- Audio-CD direct copy
- Print CD-covers with cdlabelgen
- Multisession support
- Bootable CD support
- Save/load path selections
- NLS support
- DnD support
To run gcombust, your system must have cdrtools (cdrecord/mkisofs/cdda2wav) 1.10, cdlabelgen 1.5.0, and GTK+ 1.2.x versions. It is recommended to use the latest version of GTK+ (at the moment, 1.2.10).
The latest release of gcombust contains various bug fixes, such as compile fix by Andrea Suatoni and language updates for de.po and hu.po files. The developer has removed the warning about mkisofs versions < 1.10a16 as everyone should have upgraded by now. Moreover, the new release has added options for CD-RW blanking and for 90 minutes CDs.
