Geiriadur is a software tool that integrates a dictionary search engine with a feature-rich editing system, offering users a complete solution for managing and accessing word definitions.
The Geiriadur project consists of two primary components: a dictionary CORBA server and a compelling Web interface. The system operates through "words" and "translations." A "translation" refers to a combination of words or a term with an explanation, while a "word" is a sequence of letters without a gap, thus having independent meaning in a particular language. The software supports transcription, attributes such as gender or aspect, stems, and irregular forms. Regular forms are produced dynamically during a search from "stems" and "endings."
Geiriadur's system also accounts for different spellings and linguistic mutations such as American English, Middle Welsh, and any other related forms. If a direct search (with the first word in translations table) yields no results, the software executes an inverse search or prompts the user to attempt a cross-search using a third language.
Overall, Geiriadur's innovative features make it an efficient and user-friendly software for anyone who develops or studies multiple languages. Its powerful dictionary editing system and Web interface supporting numerous languages provide a seamless experience for users.
