This software is an adaptation of Gentoo specifically designed for the original Xbox gaming console.
Gentoox Linux is an adapted version of the popular source-based Linux distribution called Gentoo. The platform is compiled from Stage 1 with full optimizations to optimally run on a Microsoft Xbox console. Nevertheless, software or hardware mods are required for it to function.
During the Gentoox installation process, users can choose between three options: E, F, and Native. Both E and F create a loopback filesystem, rendering none of the drives formatted during the installation process (with the exception of cache partitions). Nevertheless, if the user chooses "Native," the F: partition is formatted to ReiserFS, making it inaccessible to Xbox applications.
Gentoox can be loaded via an .xbe file, or from a Cromwell-based BIOS that can be flashed to the user's modchip during installation. When using E or F installations, users are entirely risk-free as they can delete all the files Gentoox installs if they do not like it (a total of about 7 files).
Finally, it is worth highlighting that all Gentoox versions are 100% free and open source, ensuring that users can enjoy all the platform's benefits without any limitations or fees.
