This software provides a command-line interface to the GitHub Issues API v2. It allows users to easily interact with GitHub's issue tracking system through terminal commands.
Installation is pretty straightforward. You can get github-cli via pip or easy_install or build from the source. Once you've installed it successfully, you'll find the ghi executable in a system bin directory.
Before you proceed to use ghi, make sure you've added your GitHub username and API token to the global git config. You can do this by entering the following commands:
git config --global github.user
git config --global github.token
This information can be found on your GitHub account page.
With installation and configuration out of the way, it's time to start using ghi. From within a git working directory with an origin hosted on GitHub, type "ghi --help" to see a list of commands and options available.
Using ghi, you can list, create, close or reopen issues, add or remove labels, search for issues with a particular term, and more. You can even specify a repository with the -r option.
If you need more details, the -v option shows additional issue details. And if you need to open the issue's GitHub page in your web browser, simply use the -w option.
In summary, if you're comfortable using the command-line and need to access GitHub's Issues API (v2), github-cli is a worthy tool to add to your arsenal.
