A portable virtual machine can be run on various operating systems and provides an isolated environment for running applications. This software allows users to transfer and run pre-configured virtual machines on different hosts without needing dedicated hardware.
Compiling Glulx requires a Glk library, which can be found on the Glk home page. The Unix Makefile included in the package is designed to link any of the Unix libraries, including XGlk, GlkTerm, and CheapGlk. Three variables must be set in the Makefile to find the library, with instructions provided at the top of the file. Once completed, simply type "make glulxe" to build the program.
Once the program is built, execute the Glulx game file by typing "./glulxe filename.ulx" into the command line. For Macintosh systems, the MacGlk library should be used, with instructions included in the package. Compilation requires building the library, source code, and "macstart.c" file, but is fairly straightforward.
