Gnomba is software that functions as a shared browser for the smb protocol. It enables users to access and browse shared resources on a local area network.
Gnomba operates as a separate tool, but it is possible to have it co-exist with a file manager or even be part of it. However, it does not support file browsing; users are expected to use their favorite file browser or utilize the command-line.
The software has recently undergone an update that introduced smb "master browser" scanning. If you opt for smb scanning (which is set by default), you need to ensure that smbd and nmbd are running on your machine. IP scanning is also an option, but users are required to specify a range of IPs to scan. Typically, this is only the subnet, so users can scan a range of IPs from the network address such as 10.23.45.1 - 10.23.45.254.
To use this software, you must have Samba installed. The latest update corrected the pl.po and spec files from [email protected], and users now have access to updated files that say 0.6.2. Overall, Gnomba is a powerful tool that enhances the browsing experience for users on networks with smb protocols.
