In case you are not familiar, GNOME is an international project that aims to create a complete desktop environment entirely from free software. This encompasses the graphical user interface on top of a computer's operating system, application software selection, as well as development frameworks, and managing programs like application launching, file handling, and window and task management. GNOME is part of the GNU Project and supported by various Unix-like operating systems, notably Linux, and Java Desktop System in Solaris. Previously standing for GNU Network Object Model Environment, the emphasis is put on simplicity, usability, and hassle-free experience.
