Gnometv is a GNOME-based viewer app for TV and teletext, designed to bring interactive television experience to its users.
This software supports various television standards such as PAL, SECAM, NTSC depending on the user's TV card, and WST, the World Standard Teletext standard, which only depends on gnometv if /dev/vbi is available.
To get started, users should first download the tar.bz2 or RPM file from the official GnomeTV site, gnometv.sourceforge.net. If the user downloads the RPM file, they can install it by typing rpm -i gnometv-0.2-1mdk.rpm. The package is specifically made for Mandrake 6.1. But if the user downloads the tarball file, they can untar it with bunzip2 -c gnometv-0.2.tar.bz2|tar xfv - and run ./configure—prefix=`gnome-config—prefix`—sysconfdir=`gnome-config—sysconfdir` and make, make install.
To start using GnomeTV, the user can either type gnometv in a terminal window or add the GnomeTV applet to the panel by right-clicking and choosing Add applet - Multimedia - GnomeTV.
In this latest release, the software introduces LIRC support, which improves functionality and user experience. Overall, Gnometv is an excellent software for GNOME users who want a reliable and feature-rich television viewer application.
