GNU Sauce is a spam-blocking server tool that helps prevent unwanted messages from infiltrating your system.
The benefits of using SAUCE are numerous. It is highly effective and can cut spam significantly, by up to tenfold. Using SAUCE means that administrators will have to deal with much less bounced mail. Moreover, it never bounces legitimate emails from correct, non-spamming sites. However, there are some downsides to using SAUCE. Most spam sources are misconfigured, but SAUCE will also bounce mail from many other misconfigured sites. Clueless strangers who often send important mail might find SAUCE unsuitable, and mail from new senders and sites is delayed, although this is configurable.
Another downside to using SAUCE is that it is a resource hog, and installation is difficult, especially if you're not using Debian. SAUCE is controversial, too, because it deliberately rejects mail for technical deficiencies that wouldn't make it undeliverable. It is essential to note that SAUCE is not a mailer for users. Instead, it must be installed on a mail hub by the system administrator and requires existing SMTP software. Currently, SAUCE supports Exim, but other mailers could be added in the future.
All in all, if spam is a significant issue for your company or organization, then GNU Sauce is an excellent tool for fighting it. It comes with an array of features that make it effective at detecting and blocking spam effectively. However, its installation and configuration can be challenging, and it requires support from the system administrator.
